Director Statement
I make films because it is the only language that is composed of both image and sound. As I am experimental film-maker, my projects are full of symbolic images and unrelated infinite sound. Through my work, the clash of images and unrelated sound makes the audience think subjectively. It makes the audience move to my world from their world and navigate the way by their meanings. I have no assurance that the audience will understand everything from my film that I intend. However, the audience can enjoy my film as playing puzzles in its imagination. The audience follows the hints and completes its own picture.
I am very much inspired surrealism and by my understanding of semiotics. My projects are mostly about communication and mutual understanding. My film is like a poem. The power of the poem is the space between words. In that space, readers take a breath and voyage to their imaginative worlds. Likewise, my projects are not only trying to show moving images but also trying to find the meanings between images like, emotion, time, weight or pressure of air. Therefore, my project is not following characters emotion or story. However, I am evoking audience’s emotion or touching memory, and allow the audience can find and feel the meanings. True understanding and communication are coming from behind the language and lines.
